Welcome to Cosmopolitan

We educate the whole child, not just the exam

Founded in the autumn of 2014, Cosmopolitan is a vibrant creative bilingual school in the heart of Dakar, caring for children from 3 to 12 years of age.

We are committed to educating the whole child, providing a quality education in a warm, loving environment. This is where the foundation is laid, cultural barriers are broken, and a child’s sense of wonder, inspiration and curiosity is nurtured.

Recognising parents as a child’s first educators, we work in partnership with families, reinforcing the positive values already learned at home.

Our programmes

Three stages, one continuous bilingual journey

Children join us as toddlers and leave as confident readers, writers and speakers in two languages. Each stage builds directly on the last.
Ages 2 to 3

Pre-Nursery

First steps away from home: independence, self-care, and a great deal of new vocabulary through play, song and story. Children still in nappies are welcome, and we help with potty training.
Ages 3 to 5

Nursery 1 to 3

Five prime areas of learning: language and literacy, mathematics, creative expression, discovering the world, and physical development, taught in both French and English.
Ages 6 to 12

Primary, Grades 1 to 6

Language arts in both languages, mathematics, science, social studies, geography, art, ICT, music and PE, with assessment twice each trimester so nobody falls behind quietly.
The bilingual model

Two languages. Two teachers. One classroom.

Every class at Cosmopolitan has a French teacher and an English teacher. Children are not translated for, they are taught, in both languages, all year.
French 60%
English 40%

Full national curriculum

The Senegalese programme delivered in French, with no compromise on official progression.

Small classes

A teacher-to-student ratio that lets us actually know each child.

“Succeeding in the 21st century will require new ways of thinking, strong language skills and an open mind. That is what we build here, one child at a time.”

What we stand for

Fostering creativity, achieving excellence

Five values shape how we teach, how we speak to children, and how we work with families.

Creativity

Children are bored by monotony. Our programme is designed to spark curiosity and a genuine desire to learn.

Connectedness

Parents are a child's first educators. We work in partnership with families, not around them.

Diversity

A secular school uniting children from many cultural backgrounds. Cultural barriers get broken here.

Excellence

High expectations, honest assessment, and the support each child needs to reach them.

Positive values

Respect for others and for the environment, healthy self-esteem, and resilience for what comes next.

Our promise

Every child should feel happy, safe and valued, and become a confident, independent, unique individual.

Questions parents ask

Before you apply

Not at all, it is one of the situations we are built for. Children arriving without either language are introduced to both through visual aids and immersion, with the aim of building a solid linguistic foundation in each. Dual-language activities, bilingual books, posters and labelled toys fill every classroom.

Yes. Children still in nappies are welcome in Pre-Nursery from age two, and we help with potty training as part of the settling-in process.

Yes. Sixty per cent of instruction follows the Senegalese national curriculum in French, so progression maps onto the national system.

Nursery runs 08:30 to 13:00, with an optional full-day extension to 16:00. Primary runs 08:00 to 16:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 08:00 to 13:00 on Wednesdays and Fridays. Pre-Nursery drop-off opens at 07:30.

Both are optional and charged separately. The school bus covers three zones across Dakar at 40,000 to 50,000 FCFA per month, and the canteen serves a main dish and dessert at lunch. Dietary allergies must be declared when you register for canteen services.

The 2026 to 2027 school year begins on Monday 7 September 2026. Enrolment must be renewed at the end of every school year, and students commit to a full year from September to June.
